Gym Competition Ideas for Members

Why competitions keep members
Retention is the hardest part of running a gym. Competitions give members a reason to keep coming back, a community to belong to, and visible progress to chase. A live leaderboard makes every one of these ideas land harder.
1. Attendance streaks
Reward consistency — most check-ins this month, or longest unbroken streak. It's the most inclusive metric: effort, not fitness level, wins. Display streaks on a live board.
2. Rep and volume challenges
A monthly "most push-ups," "most rowing metres," or "most total reps" challenge. Easy to log, easy to follow, and it gets members doing extra work for the board.
3. Class leaderboards
Track points for class attendance or performance. It fills classes and builds rivalry between regulars.
4. Team battles
Split members into teams (morning vs evening crew, or trainer-led squads) competing on a combined total. Team play builds community and peer accountability.
5. Transformation challenges
An 8-week transformation contest, scored by percentage improvement to keep it fair. Run measurements privately and only show points or rank publicly.
6. Personal record (PR) board
A rolling board celebrating new personal bests. It rewards every member's progress, not just the strongest, and gives everyone a moment in the spotlight.
Track it all live
Whatever you run, put it on a screen on the gym floor and update from your phone. For the full setup, see how to run a gym challenge leaderboard. Create your board free →
